Acer Aspire E 15 E5-576G review
Progress isn’t always good. The box the Acer Aspire E 15 E5-576G comes in isn’t inscribed with that motto, but it seems like the engineers that designed the low-cost, high-performance laptop thought that. This is the type of mobile Windows PC that other companies hardly make anymore. Today’s laptops are so thin that they barely have any ports. You can’t add more storage space or RAM to them when their performance begins to lag. Their aluminum frames glisten in the sunlight and give them a premium feel. The Aspire E 15 E5-576G is bulky. Stuffing in a 15.6-inch display, dedicated graphics, every port anyone has ever needed and a quad-core Intel Core i5 processor tends to do that. So does making a PC that’s upgradable and includes a DVD drive. Buyers get all that for just 599.99.
Acer Aspire E 15 E5-576G Design Internals
Stack two ultrabooks on top each other and you have some idea of the Acer Aspire E 15 E5-576G’s girth. It weighs 5.27 pounds and is 1.19-inches thick when closed. You do not want to carry this laptop to class or work each day. To its credit, the Acer Aspire E 15 E5-576G has a very understated look. A textured, metal-like lid gives the notebook a semi-premium look even though that premium look doesn’t translate to a premium feel. The laptop’s entire chassis is matte plastic. That is, except the keyboard deck, which has a polished metal finish. Your wrists glide on this surface as you move from using the backlit keyboard on the left of the deck to the number pad on the right. A spacious multi-touch trackpad sits just below the space bar on the Aspire E 15 E5-576G’s keyboard deck.
Whereas as most companies are touting how small the bezels around their laptop displays are, Acer is embracing them. The Acer Aspire E 15 E5-576G’s bezels double as convenient ways to open the laptop without getting fingerprints on the 1080p 15.6-inch display. Leave your dongles and adapters behind if you buy the Acer Aspire E 15 E5-576G. There’s not one port missing on this laptop. For the futurists, there’s a USB 3.1 Type-C port and an HDMI port on the left side of the system. A VGA port, USB 2.0 port, Ethernet port, headset jack and MicroSD card also line its edges. These ports are for those who prefer wired connections to Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. You can skip music and video streaming services with this laptop too. A DVD/CD drive on the right edge of the system lets you continue enjoying your physical media collection. A web camera and small microphone array are good for video chatting, but not much else. There are no Windows Hello sensors, so you’re stuck typing in your passwords. It’s hard to put the Acer Spire E 15 E5-576G in a box because just when you think it’s built for the user that just wants to replace their old budget laptop, Acer throws you something different. There’s an 8th Generation quad-core Intel Core i5 processor inside and 8GB of RAM. NVIDIA’s GeForce MX150 graphics processor has 2GB of dedicated video RAM, so you can do some light gaming on this machine. Just don’t expect to get the best visuals from Call of Duty WW2 or Forza 7. A 256GB solid-state drive handles all your internal storage needs, allowing the Aspire E15 to start and move files around in less time than other laptops in its price range that rely on standard hard drives.
Acer Aspire E 15 E5-576G Experience
Admittedly, I’m one of the millions of Windows 10 users that left heavier, port-laden PCs behind for the promise of easier productivity on the go. And, while I can’t say the Acer Aspire E 15 E5-576G makes a flawless case for why more people should consider less mobile PCs, I can say that there are some solid reasons to consider one as your next PC. The Aspire E 15 E5-576G offers solid performance. At no point in my daily routine did the laptop feel bogged down by the eight tabs and three separate programs I had open. Every web page loaded quickly and every program I needed to get through my day worked flawlessly. That includes Adobe Photoshop Elements, Adobe Premiere Elements and Microsoft Office. Even iTunes, which runs terribly on most PCs, ran well here. This isn’t just the processor at work, but also the 8GB of RAM that Acer includes in this model. I feel ashamed that my 2017 Surface Pro with Intel Core i5 processor and 4GB of RAM cost twice as much as this PC does and doesn’t run Windows 10 nearly as well. My Surface Pro also has no way for me to improve its performance through hardware upgrades, which isn’t true of the Aspire E 15 E5-576G. A door on the laptop’s bottom lets you add up to 16GB of RAM and a higher capacity drive. The Aspire E 15 E5-576G’s trackpad is spacious, slick and sensitive to your every swipe or touch. Every key on its keyboard is slightly convex and comfortable to press. They are embedded into the keyboard deck, so it’s not as easy for the entire keyboard to completely detach from the deck as it was once. Acer has come a long way in that regard. And that leaves just the things about the Acer Aspire E 15 E5-576G that I’m not so comfortable with. With all the tech inside and a 599.99 price tag, the company had to cut costs somewhere. They choose the Aspire E 15 E5-576G’s enclosure. Gotta Be Mobile’s review unit didn’t have any keyboard flex, but its lid flexed a lot. I tend to open and close laptops by grabbing their top-right corners. Not only did the lid flex, but the contours of the lid didn’t exactly match up with the bezel holding in the display. Laptops with metal frames might survive a small drop from your coffee table or couch undamaged. I’m not so sure that the Acer Aspire E 15 E5-576G would.
Finally, all that power has huge implications for this system’s battery life. A sticker just above the display promises 12 hours of continued use, but it’s really half that with a few apps open and the screen brightness set at 40%. Dimming the display to 25% got me to just over seven hours on a single charge. Dimming the 1080p display to 0% and turning on Windows 10’s Battery Saver utility finally got me to 9 hours of battery life. Of course, by then, the screen was dim enough that I found it hard to concentrate on text in Microsoft Word. Unlike with the build quality issues, I don’t think anyone should let battery life keep them from buying this machine. Considering how mobile-unfriendly this laptop’s chassis is, seven hours of battery life is probably all that you may need or want. It’s worth mentioning though because battery life slowly diminishes the longer you have a PC.
Should You Buy the Acer Aspire E 15 E5-576G?
This PC doesn’t compromise performance or connectivity in the name of design or mobility. That’s what makes it so unique. That’s also why I can only recommend it to a very specific type of Windows 10 user.
Everything isn’t for everyone and that’s fine. If you want a laptop you won’t move from your desk very often and has all the ports you need, the Acer Aspire E 15 E5-576G is a good buy. It performs well for all basic desktop productivity tasks too. That you can upgrade some of its internals down the road makes it an even better deal. Bring it home, sit it on your desk and get to work knowing that you made a good decision based on your very specific needs.
It is not, however, a great buy for anyone that needs a lot of power, great battery life and durability. Your search continues if you need any of those things as you will need to charge this laptop often. That’s to say nothing of the work out you can expect carrying this laptop from place to place.

Acer E15 Review: Slow Hard Drive Hobbles Decent Power
With most systems today coming with touchscreen and two-in-one designs, the Acer E15 feels a little like a computer from a few years ago. It’s got a basic black and gray textured design with a full-size keyboard/number pad. The 1080p 15.6-inch screen looks good and the processor, graphics and memory gives it some power, but a couple of weaknesses keep it from getting a clear recommended buy.
Do people still want a traditional 15.6-inch computer with some power and a conservative design? If they do, they will want to look at the Acer E15 series. The Acer E15-573G-56RG comes with some potentially powerful specs and a good display. Is it good enough to appeal to most buyers today?
Acer E15 Design
The black exterior and gray interior give the Acer E15 Series a conservative look. The large and heavy notebook feels more like a desktop replacement that is a little more mobile than most large notebooks. At over 5 pounds, most people won’t want to tote this machine around too much. This computer is thicker and heavier than most.
The lid feels textured as does the platform around the keyboard and the bezel. It looks tasteful and conservatively attractive.
The Acer E15 comes with a slightly tapered shape. The lid will open most of the way, but not all the way. It’s a traditional notebook computer design. The screen doesn’t swivel or open 360 degrees. It doesn’t even open 180 degrees flat. But plenty of buyers still want a traditional notebook computer.

Acer included a USB 2.0 port on the right along with the charging port. It uses a typical charging brick. The right side also holds what looks like a DVD drive tray, but it’s just a covering. An optional optical drive would fit here.
On the left side we get a headphone/mic combo port, 2 USB 3.0 ports, an HDMI port that is HDCP compatible, a Gigabit Ethernet port, 1 VGA port, the side air vent and a Kensington lock.
Along the front users will find the flash card reader and a pair of LED indicators that show when the computer’s turned on or in sleep mode. A second LED shows hard drive activity. There is nothing on the back except for the hinges and vents.
Display and Sound
A full 1080p display makes for better detail while working on documents than lower resolution displays. The display looks good enough for common usage. The color displays accurately. Watching video produces good results without any tearing or hiccups, thanks to the power and dedicated graphics.
The Acer ComfyView display, as they call it, provides a wide-angle of view. Three to four people could easily see the screen clearly when used with 75% brightness or higher. The display is bright enough that business users can share the screen and friends can watch a YouTube video together easily.
Under normal light using the computer at 50%-75% works well. However, in bright light the user will need to boost levels to 75% or higher.
While the Acer E15 display isn’t the best we’ve seen in this class, it looks good enough for basic use.
Acer’s TrueHarmony technology produces loud sound that is fairly clear for laptop speakers. Audiophiles will still want to connect a high-quality set of headphones or hook up to an external stereo system. However, most users will enjoy the sound they get from the Acer E15. As laptop speaker systems go, they are better than most.
Windows 10 includes a new feature called Cortana. For Apple users, imagine Siri on your laptop. This computer comes with Cortana compatibility built-in.
Keyboard and Touchpad
Some people really like using a dedicated number pad. I’m not one of them. It forces the user to work slightly off-center of the screen, which feels awkward.
The keyboard is a bit cramped. If Acer removed the number pad on the Acer E15, there would be plenty of room for the function keys, arrow keys and things like Delete, Home, End, Page Up and Page Down keys. With the number pad, the arrow keys get moved into a small area just below the Shift key on the right. I use them a lot, so cramping them in an awkward spot gets annoying. The design does include a dedicated right-click menu key that works like the right mouse button in apps and Windows.
The Touchpad gets annoying while typing because it gets in the way. The right-click feature that uses the lower right corner makes it awkward too. I wanted to add an external mouse after about a week. This reduces battery life, which is a problem anyway. on that below.
Users can get used to the off-center keyboard and touchy touchpad, but for this price, should we have to?
Performance Battery Life
Checking the specs on the Acer E15 below, most will think the computer should run great for all but really demanding tasks. The Intel Core i5 processor, 8 GB of Ram, and NVIDI GeForce 940M dedicated graphics processor should mean the user can even play some mid-level games. However, the slow 5400rpm traditional spinning hard drive slows the system down.
Acer promises up to 5 hours of battery life on the 2500mAh battery. I never got that much battery life. Running with Bluetooth turned off and the screen down to 25% brightness made it last close to five hours, but that forced me to use the built-in touchpad.
Most of the time the battery lasted about four hours with modest use. That’s extremely low in this generation of systems with batteries that often last 6 or 8 hours even on 15-inch computers.
Is the Acer E15 Worth Buying?
The simple answer is no. We can’t recommend the system for three big reasons. It runs slowly on start and during hard drive intensive tasks thanks to the 5400rpm hard drive. It’s got poor battery life when compared to similarly priced computers. Keyboard snobs can find better options with much better touchpads.
Gamers who don’t play the latest greatest games might enjoy using it. Entertainment-focused users might find it useful, but we think that some of the two-in-one systems available make for a better option since they are usually more portable and the battery lasts longer.

It is important to understand that not all budget laptops serve the same function. Some emphasize portability, while others package surprisingly high-powered features for the price, but sacrifice other aspects.

Each manufacturer will even have a handful of budget-priced laptops available for sale at any one time, so the differences extend even within manufacturers. Today we will review the Acer Aspire E15 E5-575-33BM and consider what it does well and find any areas where it might be lacking.
Acer Aspire E15 E5-575-33BM Specs and Overview
Processor
The Aspire E15 E5-575-33BM is powered by an i3 processor. The Intel Core i3-7100U processor is a 7th generation CPU. Running at 2.40 GHz, this dual core processor is on the new highly efficient 14nm technology. This results in a processor that is extremely battery friendly for the given processor power, using an estimated 14 watts, roughly half what would be used by an equivalent 6th generation processor.
The industry respected PassMark test gives this processor a score of just under 4000 points. For a budget laptop, this is a solid chipset, besting many i5 processors using the 6th generation technology.
GPU
Graphics processing is accomplished using the integrated Intel HD Graphics 620. This is strictly a basic graphics processor and will be insufficient for any serious gaming. However, light games should run smoothly, and it is certainly up to the task of video replay and other general computer needs.
With no dedicated memory for the GPU itself, it shares the memory with the main processor, so any serious video editing is definitely out. Likewise, any needs that require intensive graphics and are simultaneously processor intensive would be out of the range of this setup. However, this shared memory results in additional battery savings, helping to boost up battery life.
RAM
This machine comes with 4 GB of DDR4 RAM, which should be ample power for all general computing needs and should even be up to the task of some slightly more demanding tasks, such as light video editing and limited multitrack audio recording. Compared to the competition, it falls towards the front of the pack in processing power, with most similarly priced laptops lagging behind.
Storage
With a full 1TB hard drive, you should have plenty of storage space for your video and audio library. A 5400 RPM notebook drive, it will handily keep up with the processor and memory, and you should experience no limitations due to the data speeds from the hard drive. Tasks that would require much faster read/write speeds, such as audio multitrack recording with large numbers of tracks will likely be out of the range of the processor and installed memory, so the specified hard drive is a good choice and in line with other similar platforms.
Display
Video quality on the 15.6” Full HD display is substantial for the price range. The Acer ColorBlast technology is intended to boost the depth of colors on this display, helping it to stand out from the competition for video playback and image viewing. In general, this makes colors look more vivid than they would on other displays, although on rare occasions, it may lend a slightly artificial look to the image.
While 4K laptops are becoming the overwhelming trend at higher price points, for this range it is unheard of, so the Acer compares favorably or equal to the competition. While an IPS display, with the better viewing angle and increased depth of color, would have been nice, again this is standard for the price range.
Wi-Fi and Other Connections
For wireless connections, the standard 802.11ac wireless network connectivity should allow you to take advantage of the maximum speed of any router currently on the market. Network connected storage and other peripheral devices should work as fast as the network allows.
The USB 2.0 and pair of USB 3.0 connections should keep you wired to your peripherals handily. They are nicely spaced along the sides to reduce clutter. A USB 3.1 Type C is a nice touch not found on most competing laptops, allowing it to be compatible with some devices entering the market today. Expect this standard to become increasingly important over the next few years as it is integrated into most phones.
The RJ45 jack should keep you connected to wired networks, although the dust cover seems unnecessary and more annoying than useful. The charging jack is very small, a benefit of the ultra-low power consumption. It may seem to charge slower than competing laptops, reaching full charge in half again as much time. However, when you consider that it might have double the battery life of those same laptops, this seems much more reasonable. If you compared charging time to computing time, it compares very well.
If you do a lot of photography, you’ll appreciate the SD card slot on the front of the keyboard. This makes transferring files from your camera to your hard drive much more convenient than plugging in through a USB cable. This will also allow using an SD card to conveniently transfer files between machines if you don’t have a high-capacity USB external drive, or just prefer the small side of an SD card.
Acer Aspire E15 E5-575-33BM Battery Life
Where this laptop excels is with battery life. The combination of the integrated graphics card, the ultra-low power dissipation of the 14nm technology CPU, and a medium sized display results in the ability to use this laptop for 10 hours or more with light uses. For basic browsing, word processing, and similar uses, the Acer is virtually unrivaled in this price sector for battery life.
Within the constraints of basic uses, an entire workday could pass without ever needing to plug in the charger. However, for processor intensive uses such as light video editing, light gameplay, or video playback, the battery life will quickly suffer. While it should remain decent compared to much of the competition, these higher demands will likely cut battery life squarely in half.
Aesthetic of the Acer Aspire E15 E5-575-33BM 15.6-inch Full HD Notebook
The look of the Acer Aspire E15 E-575-33BM can only be described as plain and ordinary. The case is a plain black plastic with no ornamentation. No fancy shape or colorful logo adorn this budget machine, but it isn’t unattractive either. It looks like exactly what it is: a basic laptop at an affordable price.
Keyboard and Other Peripherals
The keyboard is typical for the class. While functional, nearly any external keyboard is a large upgrade. The small keys suffer from a too soft of a touch, making them feel mushy. For browsing, this shouldn’t be problematic, but extensive typing will quickly become a chore.
While some budget laptops have very poor trackpad performance, this one is slightly better than average. While not highly responsive, and it can be a little noisy when clicking, it does manage to get the job done, and at least is consistent. Some of the competition can have frustrating performance that jumps around, while this is generally smooth.
The internal speakers have a mediocre sound. The sound is slightly weak and too quiet. This is exacerbated by the fact that the speakers are on the bottom of the case. The result is that the sound is greatly affected by what surface the laptop is set on. On a soft surface, the speakers are easily muffled and made almost unusable. On hard surfaces, it can make them sound tinny and thinner than they already do.
A 720p webcam is installed above the screen and takes video that fits the budget price. For a basic webcam, it will work. For serious video bloggers, obviously, they will need to purchase an upgraded external camera, the built-in camera clearly won’t be sufficient.
The overall size of this laptop is a little larger than average for a 15.6” laptop. At 5.5 pounds, it is heavier than average, owing mostly to the large battery. While portable enough to fit into a backpack and carry around, you may find yourself wishing for a more portable machine. This may seem ironic, as the only purpose of the massive battery life is for portable use, but this same battery makes it less convenient and less portable.
Is this a good deal?
The budget laptop is the most competitive market for laptops. While the mid-range and high-end laptops may compete on performance in specific aspects, the budget laptops generally all compete by putting in as many features as possible at an ultra low price. This is great news for consumers, as the budget range of computers has become more and more capable over the past few years.
This latest offering from Acer follows that trend, offering a lot of value for the money. Features that a few years ago were only found as expensive upgrades on higher end machines are integrated as standard features in the Acer Aspire E15 E5-575-33BM, the length of the list even longer than the model name.
Regardless of your specific needs from a laptop, if you are looking for a budget laptop, this machine has what you are looking for. With a few upgrades over the competition, it is clearly a good value for the money.

With the emerging IBM compatibles market, they saw an opportunity and joined the rapidly emerging PC market.
Since their beginnings, they have continued to branch out into the consumer electronics market. Today, they make a wide range of products including laptops, desktops, smartphones, and many other related products.
They have built a reputation for good value for the price. Generally not a major player in the higher end market, they remain very competitive within the budget markets. This laptop seems to continue this FOCUS on pushing what is possible on a budget product.
Pros, Cons, Conclusions
The Acer Aspire E15 E5-575-33BM brings a lot of value for the money, and a better than average screen for the price point is a nice touch. Most laptops in this price point feature a lower pixel density, while this laptop offers a full 1080p display. If movies are your thing, you will surely appreciate this upgrade.
Connectivity also surpasses what should be expected from a budget laptop. A total of 4 USB connectors is more than average for the class. The inclusion of a USB 3.1 type C connector is also rarely found on budget machines. While this is only used on a few smartphones and other devices, the trend seems to be for more connections to be made using this new standard, ensuring that your laptop will be ready.
The weight, however, at 5.5 pounds, is a bit of a burden. This, unfortunately, hurts portability, which is the point of the extreme battery life, to begin with. I would have preferred a slightly smaller battery and the reduction in weight. Even if it meant only a 7 or 8 hours battery life, this would have been a good alternative for me.
But overall, this is clearly a market leading laptop for the price. With a feature set that goes beyond basic, it stands above most of the budget offerings from other manufacturers. We rate the Acer Aspire E15 E5-575-33BM an 8/10.
