I’ve been using the Logitech G29 wheel for two yearsReview

Hey guys. My name is TakeGaki.I’ve been using the Logitech G29 for two years. Do you guys love racing games? I love racing games!

I played Mario Kart and Gran Turismo on my controller. I was very excited. I grew up and started drifting in real life. I still remember the excitement of driving with the steering wheel at the first time. I also wanted a steering wheel controller in racing games. I bought a Logitech G29. It gave me new excitement. However, Wheel controller is expensive. There are many types. That is a tough one… So, I used the popular handle controller G29 in racing games for 2 years, so I reviewed it.I hope this help you.

Logitech G29 Exterior and Features

G29 wheel, Pedals, AC adapter, Sticker. ( Logicool is a Japanese corporation of Logitech )

Steering wheel is made of leather. It fits in your hand. Buttons are located in the center so it is easy to use. I sometimes drive with one hand. You can see this in my video. This is an advantage in long races. Because you can eat and drink juices and snacks. You can relax while driving. Even in real life races, drivers drink sports water. It’s difficult with a controller, but it’s possible with a wheel.

Left side. Paddle shifter is linked to the wheel.

Back side. It’s has a heat exhaust port for the motor. The wiring on the left is the wiring I added for the handbrake in DIY. DIY solders to the electronic board. It is an act of losing warranty. 3 pedals. Logitech G29 / G920 has a clutch pedal. It’s not slippery and can be operated more precisely than the controller.

Pedal can be removed. You can change it to a width that is easy for you to use.

Back side. I aligned the pedals. I put a gap material between pedal plate and arm. (DIY)

The base has spikes. This does a good job. This sticks in the carpet. Prevents the pedal case from moving.

Force Feedback

Logitech G29 has good Force feedback (FFB). FFB is a feature that uses a motor to express the force from the road surface on the steering wheel. That is the most important feature of the wheel. This allows you to drive the car intuitively. However, It has FFB motor is a metal gear. It makes loud noises and vibrations. Expensive wheels use rubber belts. I didn’t care about it, but you may need to be careful in residential areas and late at night. There are wheels that are quieter and have more powerful FFB than the G29. However, they are expensive. It is not fair to simply compare things with different prices.

Logitech G29 / G920 has 3 pedals.

I like Rally and Road cars. You need to use the clutch when driving them. G29 comes with a set of 3 pedals and is suitable for them.

Logitech shifter ( Option )

Logitech G29 / G920 / G923 can purchase H-pattern shifter as an option. This is a 6 gear shifter exclusively for Logitech. It makes driving a road car as real as a clutch pedal.

Logitech G29 has a lot of useful buttons

I play farming simulators and track simulators as well as racing games. Tractors and tracks have many characteristics. For example, they have cultivater, crane, etc I have assigned those operations to the G29. This is only possible with the G29, which has more buttons than other wheels.

Unsatisfied

I was a little unsatisfied in the G29. That’s the paddle shifter rotates in conjunction with the wheel. I drove a lot of rally cars and road cars. I drift with them. Since the wheel rotates violently, the paddle shifter also rotates. They can confuse me. However, if you drive a lot of GT cars and F1. So, don’t worry. Because those real life paddle shifter are tied to the wheels.

Maintenance to make G29 last longer

First of all, I apologize for showing you the dirty pictures.

All wheels have pedals. The pedals are at your feet and will get dirty. Those stains need to be removed. It’s best to use a mop or vacuum cleaner for them.It also needs to clean the internal electronic sensor.

PXN V10 the Logitech G29 Killer?

However, most importantly, never disassemble during the warranty period. It will lose the warranty. If the G29 is not working well or you are not confident in the work, please contact the manufacturer. Never do the disassembly yourself.

Remove the screw on the back side and open the cover.

The round part of the central metal is the electronic sensor of the pedal. Clean these with an air blower or vacuum cleaner. If the throttle is not 100%, apply the Electric contact revival here. I cleaned it from time to time.

Logitech G29 | Is it still worth it?

Conclusion

Wheels are very expensive as a gaming device. I need FFB, H pattern shifter, and 3 pedals. If you have these, you can enjoy a whole driving life. G29 has popular compatibility and you will enjoy a lot of games. There are wheels that perform better than the G29. However, it’s much more expensive than the G29.So, I think the G29 / G920 is the best wheel to buy for the first time. It’s a good value for the price. I was very happy to buy the Logitech G29 Driving Force Racing wheel.

That’s all for this article.Thank you for reading.

Logitech G29 vs G923 – What’s The Difference?

All three budget-friendly Logitech wheels perform well. But which racing wheel is best and worth buying, the Logitech G923, G29 or the G920?

What is the difference between the Logitech G29 and G923?

Logitech released the G29 and G920 racing wheels way back in 2015. Then, in 2020, Logitech upgraded the G29 and G920 and replaced them with the Logitech G923. You can still buy the Logitech G29 and G920 in 2023, but the G923 is the most up-to-date of the three racing wheels.

Introducing The Logitech Racing Wheel Range

Logitech has long been the king of the budget racing wheel. They have a long line of successful racing wheels from the G27 through to the older G25. In 2015, they released the latest in a long line of racing wheels, the G29.

The G29 was the next generation of racing wheel from Logitech. To confuse things a little, Logitech also released the G920 at the same time. Essentially, the G920 was the Xbox compatible racing wheel, while the G29 was the Playstation compatible version.

Then in 2020, Logitech unveiled their most recent racing wheel product, the G923. This racing wheel utilised the same design principles as the G29 while adding a few new features and upgrades. It wasn’t an entirely new racing wheel, instead, it was an upgraded version of the G29 and G920.

Logitech G923 vs G29 vs G920

As mentioned above, the Logitech G923 is essentially an upgraded version of the Logitech G29 and G920 released five years earlier. The upgraded wheel introduced a few new features and was a slightly more well-rounded racing wheel when compared to the older models.

Logitech G923

Before I take a look at the upgrades that the G923 has over the older models, first I want to take a quick look at both the G29 and G920. As these two racing wheels had more differences than just console compatibility.

Logitech G29

The Logitech G29 is the racing wheel that took the place of the outdated G27. It’s based on the same underpinnings but has much-improved design, build quality and functionality compared to the G27. The G29 is compatible with Playstation consoles and PC, but not with Xbox consoles.

Its design consists of a metal face plate, with a hand stitched leather wheel. There are a series of buttons on the front of the wheel, all allowing you to control your Playstation console without requiring a controller.

On the front of the wheel are a series of rev lights, a bright red rotary dial and some plus and minus buttons. These all allow you to control certain aspects of your car while driving and are fully customisable. For example, you can increase and decrease your brake bias using the plus and minus buttons, and adjust your traction control using the red wheel.

Overall, the G29 is a worthy upgrade over the older G27.

Logitech G920

The Logitech G920 is the Xbox variant of the G29. Inside, it’s exactly the same wheel. It behaves the same, has the same motor and maximum power, and the same pedals. But strangely, on the outside, the G920 is a rather different looking wheel.

Due to the limitations of Xbox peripherals, some functionality on the G29 doesn’t work. This means it wasn’t needed in the design of the G920.

A few things that were removed from the G29 for the G920 include the red rotary dial, the plus and minus buttons and the rev lights. None of these features appears on the G920. This is a shame, as both products are priced exactly the same.

This makes the G920 a slightly inferior racing wheel when compared to the G29. However, all of this is out of the control of Logitech, as it is the Xbox architecture that is stopping these additional functions from working.

Which is better between the Logitech G29 and G920?

When comparing both the Logitech G29 and G920, you have to look at the G29 as the better racing wheel. It includes extra features that have simply been removed from the G920.

Of course, if you own an Xbox console and only race on that, then you can’t buy a Logitech G29 due to lack of compatibility. So Xbox SIM racers have to either use the Logitech G920 or find an alternative racing wheel.

Inside, and in the performance category, both the Logitech G29 and G920 are identical. So if performance is the only part of a racing wheel that matters, both wheels are just as good as each other!

For me, I like as much control as possible when using a racing wheel. That means that the more inputs there are available for me to configure and use the better. In this regard, the G29 wins due to its extra functionality.

Both the Logitech G29 and G920 are still available to purchase, so you can still buy either of these racing wheels. However, there is now a newer and upgraded version of both these wheels, the Logitech G923.

Logitech G923

The Logitech G923 was released in 2020 and introduced a few upgrades to the Logitech racing wheel formula. It also fixed a few issues with the Xbox compatible G920.

To start with, the Logitech G923 looks identical, no matter whether you opt for the Xbox compatible version or the Playstation compatible version. There are two versions available to buy due to Xbox and Playstation’s different requirements when it comes to peripherals. But both versions look identical.

The new Logitech G923 looks very similar to the G29. It features the same design, same inputs, and the rev lights and rotary dial are all the same. The big news on the design front is that all of these features are now available to Xbox gamers.

Logitech managed to work around the limitations of the Xbox console and found a way to include the rotary dial, the rev lights and the plus and minus buttons. All of these inputs work perfectly on Xbox consoles and can be configured in-game.

The Best F1 22 Racing Wheels

Other than this, and a coat of black paint, the Logitech G923 looks identical to the G29. What is really new can’t be seen from the outside.

With the G923, Logitech introduced a new function called Trueforce. Trueforce is essentially a vibration technology that is inside the outer wheel rim. It vibrates completely independently of the force feedback generating motor.

Trueforce is designed to bring extra immersion to racing with a G923. It uses vibrations to simulate the vibrations that you feel when sitting in a real car. The more you rev your engine, the stronger the vibrations get, just like in a real car.

In practice, this works well and does add a little immersion to the overall driving experience. It certainly isn’t a game-changer, but it’s a nice additional feature. Around the back of the G923 are also a couple of extra paddles that can be used as a dual clutch. This is a very good inclusion allowing you to master your standing starts.

There have also been upgrades to the pedals on the G923. The brake pedal is a lot stiffer and offers more realistic braking compared to the older G29 and G920 brake pedals.

Racing Wheel – Logitech G923Compatibility – PlayStation 4, PS5, PC, Xbox Series X|SPrice – £379/399Where to buy – Buy from Logitech UK/EU / Buy from Logitech US

Compatibility

Compatibility isn’t a huge issue with the newer Logitech G923. You simply choose which console version you would like, and your G923 will work out of the box. The wheel has the same look and functionality no matter which console you opt to SIM race one.

There was a bigger issue with compatibility between the G29 and G920. The G920 was the Xbox compatible racing wheel and had much less functionality compared to the G29. This is frustrating as both racing wheels cost the same money, but you essentially received a worse product with the G920 compared to the G29.

Price

The Logitech G923 is the same price no matter which console compatible version you opt for. And this is the same between the G29 and G920. However, the G29 and G920 are priced slightly lower than the G923.

You can still purchase both of the older wheels, the G29 and G920, and they cost £20 less on average than the G923.

Should you buy a Logitech G923?

If you are looking to buy a great entry-level racing wheel for either PS5 or Xbox, I would highly recommend a Logitech G923. Especially compared to the older G29 and G920.

The G923 brought enough upgrades over the older racing wheels to warrant the £20 price increase. The addition of a dual clutch system along with the inclusion of Trueforce and an upgraded brake pedal makes the G923 a more well-rounded wheel.
