The body of the vacuum cleaner is supported by three wheels: two driving wheels and one swivel wheel. Drive wheels have rubber tread with pronounced grousers, which are designed to prevent slippage on a smooth floor and improve flotation on carpeting. Suspension with 25 mm travel and allows adjustment of the clearance from 1 to 3.5 cm.
The guide wheel is plastic. It is enclosed in a plastic sphere, which allows the free 360° rotation. On either side of the wheel are the base charging contacts. The plastic crosspiece in the center of the plastic frame protects the brush from winding wires.
The left axis of the brush rests on a round bearing, the right one is inserted into the quadrangular drive hole. That way, you can’t install the brush in the vacuum cleaner the wrong way round.
The on/off switch is located on the side of the housing. Next to the switch is the connector for charging the vacuum cleaner directly, bypassing the base.
Next to the charging contacts on the base is the battery compartment cover that closes with two screws. The power supply is an assembly of four 18650 batteries. At the back of the body is a place for the dustbin or wet cleaning module.
The front half of the side of the device is occupied by a movable spring-loaded bumper with 4-5 mm of travel. Its pressing actuates the mechanical proximity sensors. Behind the tinted glass bumper placed infrared sensors, allowing the vacuum cleaner to detect obstacles, find the base and receive signals from the remote control.
Two additional infrared sensors that look backward can also be found on the fixed part of the side wall. The total number of sensors, according to the documentation, is ten.
Dust collector and wet cleaning modules are installed in the same slot and secured with a latch-button. The dry cleaning module has a hinged lid that is secured with the same latch button. Under cover, a rectangular fine filter composed of a pre-filter foam and HEPA element. This unit is secured with its own plastic latch.
In order to prevent the user to forget to install the filter there is a special protection plastic element which rotates by 90 degrees and does not allow to assemble the module without the HEPA-module installed.
The wet-cleaning module consists of a two-piece large water container with a shallow compartment with a HEPA filter. Garbage compartment can be opened and closed with a plastic latch. Another latch and a special flip-up handle are used to secure the dust compartment inside the water tank. The fill hole is located on the top panel of the insert and closed with a rubber plug.

A microfiber cloth is attached to the unit with four Velcro strips. Water that moistens the rag comes from the tank through four microscopic holes. Next to the holes, you can see the air valve, through which the container will receive air.

Control with touch buttons allows:

- Zigzag mode the device automatically enters this mode in large spaces with few obstacles.
The remote control also allows manual control of the device in standby mode or during the execution of one of the programs. Arrow buttons are used for this.
The display shows the time in twelve-hour format, the day of the week, and the current mode of operation. If the robot is programmed to automatically clean according to a schedule, the corresponding icon will light up on the remote control.
Operate
Before using the unit for the first time, unpack it by removing all packaging material (including the foam rubber shipping strips that hold the bumper in place) and removing any advertising stickers from the unit.
The side brushes of the vacuum cleaner should be placed on the seats, the base connected to the power adapter and placed so that a distance of 1 meter on the sides and 2 meters in front of it there are no obstacles.

This functionality seemed to us strange and redundant: the device does not allow you to configure automatic cleaning by selected days. Perhaps the thing is that our vacuum cleaner is equipped with some standard remote control that implies the extended functionality. Or, alternatively, a cleaning schedule by days of the week was originally planned, but then it was decided to abandon it.
In general, the scheduled cleaning is done once a day, there is no opportunity to apply different scenarios or to choose different modes of operation.
The model notifies about the beginning of its work and all kinds of events with a short annoying sound signal. The user also has the option of sound signals, which enable the vacuum cleaner to speak in a soft, female voice.
The cleaner has many special codes that allow (with the manual at hand) to quickly and accurately determine what the problem is and how it can be fixed. For instance, the cleaner will indicate events such as improperly set dust container, problems with shock sensors, wheel detachment, anti-fall sensor activation, brush, wheel or fan overload, etc. д.
In automatic mode, the vacuum cleaner moves with a well-designed level of randomness, rotating to an arbitrary angle when it hits an obstacle.
Machine will clean automatically for as long as it has battery life remaining. When the charge level drops to a preset minimum, the robot switches from cleaning mode to base search mode. Never lost its way during testing and returned to base 100% of the time. Although, of course, it must be remembered that in rooms with a complex layout, situations where the charge will run out before the vacuum cleaner sees the base cannot be ruled out.
Vacuum cleaner not only sucks up dust, but also wipes the floor with a wet cloth. The small volume of the bin of the corresponding module means that this mode should be started after the room has been cleaned dry. When cleaning the floor, the robot leaves behind an evenly wet trail without streaks, drips or smudges and dries rather quickly. It is clear that this mode is wiping, not cleaning the floor.
The plastic parts of the device can be wiped with a damp (but not too wet) cloth. The unit’s brushes, dustbin, combination bin and wet-mop nozzle can be cleaned under running water. If necessary, a mild detergent may be used.
The dust canister of the device should be cleaned after each cleaning, making sure that it is not overfilled. HEPA filter can be cleaned according to the instructions using the brush that comes with the device. But it was found out that it is not possible to rinse it under running water.
Center brush should also be cleaned after each cleaning, rinsed out and dried well if needed.
Rags for wiping the floor are also recommended to be washed under running water and dried without exposure to sunlight or high temperatures.
Our measurements
We present the results of testing the device using our methodology, which is described in detail in a separate article.
In the first 10 minutes, our vacuum cleaner pretty evenly bypassed the entire test site, visiting the trap in the far left corner and successfully getting out of it. The only problem area was in the immediate vicinity of the base, which the device, as it should, bypasses at a distance.
Over the next 10 minutes, it continued cleaning in the same mode, removing 93.8% of the debris by the end of the cycle. The difficult area between the base and the artificial obstacle continued to be partially problematic: the robot only went through it once.
Finally, in the third ten minutes, our vacuum cleaner coped with the cleaning of the problem area, demonstrating a very decent result in terms of cleaning efficiency.
The fourth stage of testing a 30-minute cleaning in automatic mode. During this time, the amount of trash removed increased by 0.4%.
During the tests, cleaned 97.1% of the test site, leaving a small amount of debris in corners, along walls and in the immediate vicinity of the base.

Duration of autonomous work from the moment of departure from the base to the moment of return to it corresponds to the declared 90 to 120 minutes (depending on how soft surface is to be cleaned).
The appliance, which has entered the base after finishing its work in automatic mode, takes about 4 hours (4:00-4:10) to charge. During charging the base of the device consumes 14-16W, in standby mode the power consumption is 0.2W. A full charge requires an average of 0.05 kW·hour of electricity.
Noise level in the vicinity of the vacuum cleaner did not exceed 62 dB.
We measured the vacuum cleaner without the modules installed at 2130g. The dust collector unit weighs 265 g, and the dry weight of the wet cleaning module is 420 g.
The Redmond RV-R500 vacuum cleaner proved to be a fairly effective device that can not only handle tough dirt, but also perform wet mopping.
