Assembly and adjustment

The process of installing an automatic control system includes:

  • Connecting the blower. As a rule, the turbine is placed on the lowest door of the boiler, where the damper is located. But there are models of units where it is installed on the side wall, or in a special place on top of the boiler, it all depends on the design features. Everything is simple: remove the damper and in its place put the fan, for mounting use four screws. If there are no holes for mounting, they must be drilled. For fans with a damper, installation is done in such a way that when the damper is off, it is closed.
  • Controller installation. First of all, you need to determine the place where the device will be installed. The main requirement is that it must not get hot. On models without a stove hob, the control box must be mounted on top. If the design of the unit allows it, the unit can be mounted on the side wall. Do not forget about the length of cables.
  • Connecting the temperature sensor. Properly installed temperature sensor will ensure the proper functioning of the entire control unit. If the model has no special place for the sensor (hole parameters: diameter of 10 mm, and depth of 60 mm), it can be mounted on the metal outlet pipe. Clamping material is used as fixing element and can be supplied with the unit.
  • Connector connection. To do this, it is necessary to connect the turbine connector with the control unit connector. To finish, connect the mains cable of the appliance. Automation is ready to execute its functions.

Slide gate control

The slide gate is installed in any solid fuel boiler at the outlet of the furnace in front of the chimney and is used to control the draft and exhaust velocity of gases produced during fuel combustion.

Proper adjustment of the slide gate significantly increases the efficiency of the boiler, and in its absence most of the useful energy will simply fly out into the chimney. And this causes increased wear of the boiler and chimney from overheating.

The gate valve drive can be either electromagnetic, providing two positions (fully open, half-open) or motorized, which allows more accurate control of the chimney cross-section.

Temperature sensor is installed in the boiler jacket. When the temperature of the heating medium rises, the automatics closes the damper, reducing the draught and reducing the boiler output, when the temperature drops, on the contrary, it opens the damper and increases the output.

Fans

Another way to control the draught is to use a blower for forced air circulation in the boiler. It is borrowed from industrial units, where because of the volume of fuel efficiency plays an important role.

There are two types of fans for boilers of long combustion:

  • Blower is placed in front of the furnace instead of the ash door and affects the supply of oxygen into the furnace, thus regulating the intensity of combustion.
  • The flue gas aspirator is placed either at the beginning of the chimney (immediately after the boiler) or at its end.

The main task is to adjust the draught and its amplification, when the natural draught is insufficient for efficient operation of the boiler (due to weather conditions or the chimney construction).

The speed of the fans and thus their influence on the system draught can be steplessly varied over a wide range by means of a thyristor control unit.

Note ! In case of insufficient temperature of the heat carrier, the controller increases the draught, changing the fan speed. If the boiler is too hot, the draft decreases.

Ash door

The most common variant of automatization is adjusting of ash door opening. Opening or closing the door changes the natural draught and influences the temperature of the boiler.

The simplest ashtray door thermo-mechanical control systems. Device consists of a thermosensitive liquid, a spring and a chain for connection to the door. Installed in standard boiler openings, where thermal contact with the coolant is ensured.

The desired temperature is set on the thermoregulator. When the temperature becomes too high, the fluid expands, overcomes the spring force and loosens the circuit, the flap closes, the draft decreases and the temperature falls. Otherwise, the door opens wider and the temperature rises.

Important! Similar systems require no power and are reliable, but regulation accuracy is limited to 510 C.

Electronic systems use temperature sensors to control the coolant and electromechanical actuators installed on the ash door. Work similarly, with up to 1 C accuracy.

Since electronic systems require constant power, it is worth taking care to install an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) so that in the event of a power outage the boiler will not fail.

Connection of automatics to the solid fuel boiler

The installation process begins with the fan, which is installed on the air or ash door. Many modern solid fuel models already have spaces and holes for attaching a supercharger. Otherwise it is necessary to drill the holes yourself and fix the blower with four bolts.

Pay attention to the thermal gasket: it is obligatory, but not on all models of fans. As a result the turbine should be installed according to the photo below.

The second step is the installation and connection of the automatics itself to the solid fuel boiler. The controller is installed on top or on the side of the case through the holes designed for this device. Although many controllers are made of heat-resistant materials, it is advisable to install the device on the coldest part of the boiler, if necessary, put a heat-resistant gasket of incombustible material.

How you make the setting

The detailed tuning algorithm also depends on the model and is always described in the manual. In general, this is the procedure for tuning:

  • Setting the switching temperature of the circulation pump. allows to switch on the pump not immediately, but when the coolant has already warmed up, necessary to prevent condensation (usually set at 50°C).
  • Setting the desired heating circuit or room temperature, depending on the model and controls.
  • Setting the fan speed (1 to 10) or selecting one of the automatic modes for fan speed control. When setting the supercharger completely manually, you also need to set the parameters of the fan run time and frequency of its activation in the combustion support mode.
  • Fueling and ignition of the boiler. Control of its operation and, if necessary, adjustment of the parameters.
